You say you ‘hate’ public speaking, but here’s the real problem
The gap between 'hating' public speaking and enjoying the stage is not as big as you think,
Mainly because what you think the problem is, is not the REAL problem.
And the real problem is solveable!
What you say:
- I hate public speaking
- I’m dreading my talk
- I’m really nervous
What the real problem is:
- You don’t know what you want to say
- You’re not really sure what the core idea is and what you need the audience to walk away with
- You don’t know how to build the talk
- You think you have to be someone else on stage
How you cross the barrier (where I help):
- Figure out what you really want to say
- What's the one thing you want the audience to remember?
- How do you want the audience to feel about the talk?
- Figure out the best way to achieve those outcomes with your knowledge, experience, stories and stats - AND your personality.
- Practice
- Practice more
Outcome:
It turns out your nerves were not because you're a terrible speaker, it's because you weren't really well prepared and you hadn't practiced yet.
Your nerves may never really disappear (and I'll explain why that's a good thing another time!), but it's incredible how knowing that you've got a really valuable message to share suddenly makes you feel so much more capable.
There's an amazing speaker hiding inside you, I promise!
